Colts’ Parris Campbell talks about car accident during preseason

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell missed roughly a week of padded practice during training camp after being involved in a car accident.

As the Colts prepare for their Week 1 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Campbell spoke to reporters Wednesday about the incident that placed him in the concussion protocol for about a week.

“It was just another bump in the road. Stuff like that happens, but I was just thinking to myself, ‘What are the odds this close to the season?’ But I’m healthy,” Campbell said. “I’m blessed to be able to be talking to you guys. It was just another bump in the road. I’m not too concerned about it because I’m fine. I’m good.”

After going through what he went through during his rookie campaign—four separate injuries and three surgeries—Campbell is just looking to stay healthy. He’s shown what his skill set can mean to the offense and already is showing off some rapport with veteran quarterback Philip Rivers.

As potentially the second target in the passing game, Campbell is already looking forward to being out on the field Sunday.

“Man, I’m super excited. It’s Week 1, it’s here. It’s been a long, long offseason, but it’s finally here,” Campbell said. “I was telling some of the wideouts today, I’ve just been filled with energy, waking up every day with a smile. I’m just ready to go. I’m excited that it’s finally here.”

Campbell enters a big year in 2020 and will be viewed as a breakout candidate as long as he stays healthy. He gets his first chance to shine in Week 1 when the Colts head south to Jacksonville.
