Colts’ Parris Campbell ‘still a valuable member of this team’

There haven’t been many players who have been run through the injury gauntlet like Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell has during the first two years of his career.

After dealing with a myriad of injuries that included three surgeries during his rookie year, Campbell only dealt with one injury in 2020. But it was enough to keep him off the field for the entire campaign when he took a nasty shot to his knee in Week 2.

Even with an injury history that would surprise Andrew Luck, the Colts still believe Campbell is a big part of the offense moving forward.

“Parris is young. He had bad luck. He gets hit on a fly sweep reverse, hits right on the knee. It’s just bad luck,” said Chris Ballard in his year-end press conference. “He’s worked his butt off in rehab. He’s driven. He’s still young. He’s still talented. We think Parris is going to be a valuable member of this team moving forward I still believe in him. Our coaches still believe in him. We will get him healthy, get him ready for camp and let him compete.”

The Colts got to see a bit of what Campbell brings to the table during the Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though they lost in a seemingly surprising fashion, Campbell led the way with six receptions for 71 yards and took a carry for nine yards.

With T.Y. Hilton’s future uncertain, the Colts have a lot of confidence that 2020 second-round pick Michael Pittman Jr. can lead the room, but they will also need Campbell to step up and be that electric receiver they drafted him to be.

It has been a rough start to his career given the injuries, but the Colts still believe they have an explosive talent in Campbell moving forward.
