Colts’ Parris Campbell among Lance Zierlein’s favorite draft picks

Using a second-round pick on former Ohio State wide receiver Parris Campbell, the Indianapolis Colts offense added another dynamic weapon to the fold for quarterback Andrew Luck.

A speedy, sure-handed receiver working primarily from the slot, Campbell has the chance to prove he can carve out a role quickly in a Colts offense that has the chance to be an elite unit during the 2019 season.

He was also listed as one of Lance Zierlein’s favorite picks in the second round of the draft.

Drafted: 59th overall pick, Indianapolis Colts
After finishing my study of his tape, I realized that it was not unreasonable to put a first-round grade on Campbell, even though he was unlikely to be picked that early. He has great size, tremendous speed and offers value as a return man. The Colts can use him as both a field stretcher and a catch-and-run target near the line of scrimmage for Andrew Luck. He has the deep speed to force some safety focus away from T.Y. Hilton in that offense.

The hype is already real for Campbell. It’s hard not to be optimistic. He’s a perfect fit for the Colts offense while filling the exact need Indy had entering the draft. With a 4.31 40-yard dash, Campbell can fill the role of a slot receiver that wreaks havoc after the catch.

That’s an area the Colts sorely missed from the collective group of receivers in 2018.

He will have to work for it, though. T.Y. Hilton leads the room, but the Colts are excited about the addition of Devin Funchess in free agency while the return of Deon Cain from ACL surgery should be a fun development to watch.

Campbell will also have to share targets with tight ends Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle, both of which are integral parts of the offense.

It remains to be seen how Campbell will do in his rookie season, but he’s already got some hype coming out of the draft as one of the best fits with his new team.
