Colts open as 5.5-point underdogs to Patriots in Week 9

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4-1) will open the week as road underdogs ahead of the Week 9 matchup against the New England Patriots (4-4).

After failing to hold onto a late fourth-quarter lead in the 17-16 loss to the Washington Commanders, it seems likely that the Colts will continue down the path of being one of the bottom-half teams in the NFL.

Here are the opening betting odds for the Week 9 matchup, provided by Tipico Sportsbook:

Spread Moneyline Total Points
Indianapolis Colts (3-4-1) +5.5 +195 O 39
-112
New England Patriots (4-4) -5.5 -250 U 39
-108

Even though the Patriots haven’t been the powerhouse they are typically known for, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Colts are underdogs on the road.

Dragging along one of the worst offenses in the NFL, the Colts have averaged 16.1 points per game and have been outscored 105-42 during the first half of games.

The results thus far led to the Colts making a quarterback change and firing offensive coordinator Marcus Brady.

The spread being nearly a touchdown is a bit surprising, though, because the Patriots offense isn’t that much better. While the Colts rank dead last in offensive DVOA, the Patriots are only a few notches higher at No. 24.

The Colts are hoping to get back on track after losing their last two games but in the eyes of Vegas, that losing streak will extend to three games after this week.
