Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Parris Campbell went through just about as many injuries as possible for a rookie entering the league, resulting in what essentially became a lost season.
Campbell suffered injuries ranging from a hamstring to the broken foot that eventually ended his season. But Campbell is ready to respond in Year 2 now that he is fully healthy.
Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni has been impressed with the way Campbell has responded to the adversity he endured in 2019.
“Parris — obviously Parris went through about as many ups and downs as you can go (through) as a rookie, and what I love about Parris Campbell is that he’s going to respond,” Sirianni told Colts.com. “That’s just the type of guy he is, and that’s a credit to Frank and to Chris (Ballard), the type of players that they want to bring in. He’s going to respond to adversity, no matter what.”
Campbell is expected to be competing with Zach Pascal for the WR3 role in the offense. The Ohio State product will be working more from the slot now that the Colts have rookie Michael Pittman Jr. lining up as the X in the formation.
With new quarterback Philip Rivers leading the offense, Campbell should see a higher quality of targets and now that he’s working mostly from the slot, he fits perfectly into the mold of getting the ball quickly and working after the catch, which is one of his specialties.
The Colts should be expected to have a better passing game in 2020 and while much of that credit could go to Rivers, a healthy Campbell will do wonders for this offense.
