Colts OC ‘can’t say enough about’ WR Chester Rogers

There are many wide receivers currently competing for spots in the room and while some have flashed a little brighter at times during training camp, none have been as consistent as Chester Rogers.

Going into his fourth season since joining the team as an undrafted rookie in 2016, Rogers has been working his way up the depth chart. He might flash the highest upside among the room, but the consistency he is showing in training camp shouldn’t be understated.

It certainly hasn’t been lost on offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, who had nothing but praise for the Grambling State product.

“Yeah, he’s been great. I can’t say enough for him and the type of camp that he’s had. He’s competitive,” Sirianni told reporters Monday. “So he competes his butt off, he’s tough, he’s tough, he’s consistent. Love what he has done. I love what he has done and I can’t say enough (about) how good his camp has been so far and we’ve still got some more days to go.”

The top of the room appears to be locked in, barring any major changes. T.Y. Hilton and Devin Funchess will lead the way as WR1 and WR2, respectively. Beyond that, though, the roles are completely up for grabs. Through the first two weeks of camp, Rogers is leading the way for the WR3 role.

It helps that Rogers has built a rapport with the quarterback room. He’s had a full season with Jacoby Brissett and two seasons with Andrew Luck. Continuing to build off that trust is necessary for Rogers.

“I just want to continue to see that from Chester because he’s built a lot of trust up in us as coaches and his teammates,” said Sirianni.

The Colts have a heated battle going on in the wide receiver room throughout training camp and while a few others have had some big moments, Rogers appears entrenched to have a roster spot on lock down.
