Colts QB Jacoby Brissett not expected to play vs. Bears

The Indianapolis Colts won’t be playing their starting units against the Chicago Bears in the preseason matchup on Saturday, and that includes quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

After coach Frank Reich told the media Wednesday that the starters wouldn’t play against the Bears, Brissett’s name came up as someone who might still get a small amount of time.

Throughout the week, Reich declined to answer whether Brissett would be playing on Saturday. While he still hasn’t confirmed that the quarterback would sit out, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reported that Brissett won’t suit up.

With Andrew Luck still working his way through an ankle injury, Brissett has been filling in as QB1. He is coming off of his strongest performance of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns, in which he finished 8-of-10 passing for 100 yards and a beautiful touchdown throw to Eric Ebron.

Despite the third preseason game typically being the dress rehearsal, teams have been moving toward keeping starters and other key players off the field to avoid injuries.
