Colts’ NFL Draft scouting report: WR Emanuel Hall

With three selections in the top 60 of the 2019 NFL Draft, there is a chance the Indianapolis Colts look to invest relatively early in a wide receiver with the potential to make an immediate impact. Among those options could be Emanuel Hall.

Name: Emanuel Hall
Position: WR
College: Missouri
Age: 21
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 201 pounds

College Stats
Games Watched: Florida (2018), Oklahoma State (2018), Wyoming (2018), Tennessee (2017), Florida (2017), Georgia (2017)

Bio

A big-play machine throughout his time at Missouri, Hall never really put up elite production, but he did average 21.9 yards per reception during the final three years of his college career. A fourth-year senior, Hall caught 37 passes for 828 yards and six touchdowns in 2018.

Pros

  • Excellent speed (4.39 40) that shows up on tape.
  • Superb athlete including a 43.5-inch vertical.
  • Projects favorably as a vertical threat.
  • Tracks deep passes well.
  • Often catches well in stride.
  • Smooth glider makes speeding past defenders look effortless.
  • Excellent short area quickness at LOS helps him beat press coverage.
  • Change of direction skills are a huge plus.
  • Exciting in space and after the catch.
  • Closes space quickly on a defender playing off coverage.

Cons

  • Very raw in route running.
  • Extremely limited route tree. Really only ran go routes and curls.
  • Can get alligator arms over the middle resulting in drops.
  • Strength doesn’t appear to be a big part of his game.
  • Might struggle against strong/lengthy NFL corners that press and re-route well at LOS.
  • Might need to add some bulk to consistently win on the outside and in contested catch situations.
  • Minor injuries throughout time at Mizzou but nothing concerning.

Overall

Hall is a fun prospect to watch given that he can break off a big play at any moment during a game. He’s an extremely high-upside prospect that projects as a vertical threat but one that might take some work to develop.

While Hall’s game-breaking speed is fun, his route-running is very raw in addition to having a tremendously limited route tree. Still, he’s an exciting prospect due to the fact that he could become a highly productive player in the right system.

Some development does need to take place, but Hall seems like the kind of prospect Chris Ballard might take a chance on at No. 59 and certainly No. 89 if he falls that far, which could be fun to watch being paired with Andrew Luck.
