Colts name captains for 2019 season

The Indianapolis Colts announced Thursday their five captains heading into the 2019 season.

Though it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see which players were named captains to lead the team, the quintet includes quarterback Jacoby Brissett, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, kicker Adam Vinatieri, safety Clayton Geathers and linebacker Darius Leonard.

The Colts have spoken highly of each player that was named a captain. Not only have these players made massive impacts on the field, they are also considered among the biggest leaders in the locker room.

Brissett will be the one to step in for Andrew Luck, who announced his retirement during the preseason. The Colts have raved about his skill set on the field and his ability to lead the locker room.

In a league full of diva wide receivers begging for attention, Hilton has been a model of consistency throughout his career. The veteran leader in the wide receiver room, Ghost has truly embraced what it means to be a team-first player.

Vinatieri’s impact goes without saying. At the age of 46, he’s a role model for longevity in a league that has an extremely short shelf life. He’s entering his 24th season in the league.

Geathers, despite his constant injuries, has shown what it means to persevere. He has a huge season ahead of him in which he must prove he can stay healthy, but general manager Chris Ballard has gone on record several times to give his support of Geathers as a leader in the locker and a veteran in the secondary.

Finally, there is the Maniac. Leonard, who has defied all odds to become one of the best linebackers in the league after just one season, is one of the top voices for the Colts locker room. He should be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.
