Colts move Robert Mathis’ Ring of Honor induction to 2021

Legendary Indianapolis Colts defensive end Robert Mathis was expected to be inducted into the organization’s Ring of Honor during the Week 11 home matchup against the Green Bay Packers. However, those plans are now on hold.

Because of the restrictions with COVID-19, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced Thursday that the induction ceremony will be pushed back until 2021.

Mathis is the franchise all-time leader in sacks (123) and forced fumbles (54), thanks to his elite strip-sack ability. He was a five-time Pro Bowler while earning an All-Pro nod in 2013 when he recorded a career-high 19.5 sacks. That also resulted in him winning the AFC Defensive Player of the Year Award.

He will be the 17th member of the Colts’ Ring of Honor, following his running mate in Dwight Freeney, who was the last Colt to be inducted in 2019.
