Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack proved his game is still ascending in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers in a performance that earned him the FedEx Ground Player of the Week vote.
Taking 25 carries for 174 yards and a touchdown, Mack’s second half of the game was truly explosive. Over those final two quarters, Mack had 153 rushing yards—which included a beautiful 63-yard breakaway touchdown.
It was the fifth time in his career that he has eclipsed the 100-yard mark. The other four times all came during the 2018 season, which was his first as a starter.
With Jacoby Brissett under center, the Colts aren’t afraid to throw the ball, but having Mack as a balancing act in the backfield helps take some of the pressure off as the quarterback gets used to being the starter.
With a commitment to the run, there are likely more big days for Mack ahead.
