Colts’ Malik Hooker expects to return following bye week

The Indianapolis Colts defense has been dealing with some major injuries to open the season and one of the most significant losses has been that of safety Malik Hooker.

After tearing his meniscus following the Week 3 win against the Atlanta Falcons at home, Hooker has been rehabbing his way back. The expectation was for the third-year safety to miss some time as he works his way back, but he feels he will return to practice following the Colts’ bye in Week 6.

This, of course, isn’t official. Players often put timetables out there only for them to sit out longer. But this is a good sign that Hooker is progressing if he feels confident enough to return so soon.

The Ohio State product has been enjoying a solid season working from the free safety position. Though he isn’t tested often, that’s a testament to his talent and range covering sideline to sideline.

The Colts don’t want to rush Hooker back, but it would be a big boost for the defense if he does wind up returning to practice quickly following the bye week.

It’s is subject to change, of course, and should be monitored over the next two weeks.
