Colts make hires to the coaching staff

The Indianapolis Colts hired Howard Mudd as the senior offensive assistant among other hires, the team announced Thursday.

Along with Mudd returning to the team, the Colts announced that they hired Klayton Adams as the assistant offensive line coach while Marcus Brady has been promoted from assistant quarterbacks coach to quarterbacks coach.

The big hire here is Mudd, who has a warm place in the hearts of Colts fans. Mudd served as the team’s offensive line coach for 12 seasons (1998-2009), which included the Super Bowl XLI championship team.

In total, Mudd has over 40 years of NFL coaching experience as both a coach and a player. The hope is he can help shape some of the young offensive linemen such as left guard Quenton Nelson, center Ryan Kelly, right guard Mark Glowinski and right tackle Braden Smith.

The Colts allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL during the 2018 season in what was a miraculous turnaround for the offenisve line. The team is doubling down on their emphasis of building the trenches with the addition of Mudd.
