Colts listed as ‘logical fit’ for WR Golden Tate in free agency

The Indianapolis Colts are gearing up for what could be an exciting free agency when the new league year begins March 13, and one of the areas they will be looking to add to is the wide receiver position.

Despite having the most salary cap space in the NFL entering free agency, the Colts shouldn’t be expected to blow all of their cash in one offseason. Still, there are a number of players that seem like solid fits for Indy.

Among them is veteran wide receiver Golden Tate, who was listed as a “logical fit” for the Colts by Matt Harmon of Yahoo Sports.

The Colts will certainly be in the market for wide receiver help after Chester Rodgers, Ryan Grant, Zach Pascal and Dontrelle Inman all took turns as the No. 2 and 3 wideouts. Only Inman out of that cohort cleared 10 yards per catch. Tate would fill an immediate need and the Colts have the money to spend. Indianapolis likes to use Hilton out of the slot on occasion but this would only increase their offensive versatility.

There is no denying the Colts will be in the market to add depth to the wide receiver position. Finding a player that is both versatile, reliable and strong after the catch is likely what general manager Chris Ballard would be looking for.

Despite entering his age-31 season, Tate has still proven to be a reliable and electric pass catcher working mostly out of the slot. His skill set vibes well with Frank Reich’s quick-passing offense, especially when it comes to making plays after the catch.

It remains to be seen who the Colts will target in free agency, but Tate could be among them given his fit in the offense.
