Colts’ Justin Houston signs two-year, $24M deal

The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent defensive end Justin Houston, the team announced Thursday.

Needing to upgrade at the pass rush, the Colts are bringing in Houston on a two-year deal worth $24 million, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Colts have a young group of pass rushers that they will be looking to develop, but Houston should give them a viable pass rushing option immediately off the edge.

Coming off a 9.0-sack season in 2018, Houston is likely to be converting to the defensive end position after playing the outside linebacker position in the Chiefs’ 3-4 alignment.

The Colts have money to spare as they entered free agency with the most salary cap space in the NFL, but this two-year deal seems to be a solid contract for both sides. Indy doesn’t break the bank while Houston gets a nice payday entering his age-30 season.

It remains to be seen how the Colts will use Houston in their one-gap front, but his two-year deal suggests he should play a large role in the attack.
