Colts’ Jonathan Williams suffered broken rib vs. Browns

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Williams left Saturday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns and didn’t return. It has been revealed he suffered a broken rib during the 21-18 loss.

It isn’t clear how long Williams will be out nursing the broken rib. Head coach Frank Reich told reporters in a conference call Sunday that the team is optimistic it isn’t long term.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also reported it isn’t expected to be a lingering injury.

Williams was enjoying a strong preseason while coming off of an encouraging performance in training camp. With Jordan Wilkins battling a foot injury, Williams was given the opportunity to work as the RB3. He took full advantage of it and could be in line for a spot on the 53-man roster if the rib injury isn’t too bad.

The healthy players in the Colts backfield currently consist of Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines, Aca’Cedric Ware and D’Onta Foreman.
