Colts’ Jim Irsay drops nearly $4M on ‘Black Strat’ guitar

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has never been shy about adding pieces to his collection of legendary artifacts—especially when it comes to musical history.

At a charity auction at Christie’s New York, Irsay dropped $3.975 million on one of the three items he bought Thursday. That item is the “Black Strat” guitar, formerly owned and played by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Irsay is now the owner of the most expensive guitar ever sold at an auction.

The Colts owner also bought a 1969 Martin D-35 guitar for $1.095 million and a travel case for the Black Strat, which ran him $175,000.

Irsay also tweeted that he sent Gilmour a signed Andrew Luck jersey as a token of appreciation.

The money received from the auctions will go to ClientEarth, a non-profit environmental law organization.
