Colts’ Jacoby Brissett not focusing on QB rumors

It is no secret that the Indianapolis Colts are among the teams that could be active in the quarterback market this offseason, but current starter Jacoby Brissett isn’t paying them any mind.

Whether it’s the suggestions that Philip Rivers will be wearing the horseshoe in 2020 or whether the Colts are going to draft a quarterback, Brissett had a quick answer on Saturday when asked about the entire situation.

“[I’m] just doing my job,” Brissett told ESPN’s Diana Russini while at an XFL game between the Houston Roughnecks and the Seattle Dragons.

Brissett’s 2019 season didn’t finish all that well. Despite starting the season on a torrid pace, Brissett’s numbers fell back to Earth quickly and saw him throw just four touchdown passes over the final eight games of the season.

There’s a hearty debate as to why he regressed so quickly. He suffered a knee injury during the Week 9 game against the Steelers, which has many citing that as the downfall of his season.

The Colts have a lot of decisions to make. They need to start looking at the long-term value of the quarterback position. It wouldn’t be a shock if they gave him one more year as the starter to prove himself, but they also need to begin looking at life after Brissett.

That could come in the form of a rookie in the 2020 NFL draft, but the Colts seem to be playing it close to the vest as they prepare to make an addition with the No. 13 overall pick.

With a week until free agency, the Brissett is currently the starter and regardless of what happens, he’s likely to keep that mindset moving forward.
