Colts’ Jack Doyle among NFL’s top blocking TEs

Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle may have missed the majority of the 2018 season due to multiple injuries, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have an impact on the offense.

The unquestioned leader in the tight end room, Doyle has proven he can be a dual-threat option working both as a pass catcher and as a run blocker. In fact, he’s considered one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL.

In ranking the best blocking tight ends in the NFL, Pro Football Focus ranked Doyle as the third-best.

3. JACK DOYLEINDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Injuries plagued Doyle’s 2018 campaign with the Colts, but he still logged 148 run-blocking snaps and earned a career-high 73.7 run-blocking grade while doing so. He earned 70.0-plus run-blocking grades in three of the six games he played in this past season.

Doyle isn’t the most electric pass catcher. He’s a sure-handed option that works well on short and intermediate routes. However, his run blocking is what sets him apart from the group, and it was a big reason why he earned a three-year extension before the 2017 season.

The Colts have arguably the best tight end room in the NFL and while Eric Ebron gets much of the well-deserved credit for his 13 touchdown receptions, the leader of the group is Doyle, who makes his impact in the run game just as much as he does as a pass catcher.
