Colts injury updates: QB Carson Wentz returning to limited practice

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich gave some updates on several injuries that have hit the roster in recent weeks, including Carson Wentz’s return from foot surgery.

It seems the Colts are getting encouraging news when it comes to Wentz’s timeline and prognosis. Despite undergoing surgery three weeks ago, the 28-year-old quarterback is expected to return to practice this week on a limited basis.

The same goes for center Ryan Kelly (elbow) and left guard Quenton Nelson (foot), both of which have missed the majority of training camp and both preseason games due to their respective injuries.

“You’ll see him out there on the practice field this week. He’ll be out there tomorrow. He’ll be out there tomorrow taking some things,” Reich told reporters Sunday. “He’ll be out there, he’ll be limited. He’ll be out there. It’ll be limited, he’ll be limited but he will be participating – as will (Ryan) Kelly and as well Quenton Nelson.”

This is certainly encouraging for the Colts to see three of their key starters returning to the field even if it is in a limited capacity. The hope is that all three will be ready for the Week 1 opener against the Seattle Seahawks, but it remains to be seen how that will go.

Reich also mentioned that defensive back Andre Chachere suffered a concussion on the last play of the game against the Minnesota Vikings while defensive tackle Antwaun Woods suffered a hamstring injury during the game.
