Colts holding Andrew Luck (calf) out of minicamp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been absent for the past three weeks due to a calf strain, and that will continue into minicamp.

The franchise quarterback will be held out of minicamp this week, meaning he won’t be taking any reps under center until training camp, head coach Frank Reich told reporters Tuesday.

Reich considered this a possibility that Luck might not participate in team activities this spring, but he has said he isn’t concerned if that would be the case.

“He could be out there. But you’ve gotta take these things serious,” Reich said last week. “I’m hoping he’s going to be out there next week. … If this plays out that we don’t take a snap (during the offseason program), it’s OK. It’s not a big-news story as far as what we’re doing as a team and what we’re doing offensively.”

Luck is still expected to be ready for the first day of training camp.

The Colts have been taking the injury week-to-week, re-evaluating him each time they come back from a few days break. Throughout the three weeks of OTAs, Luck was kept off of the field the Colts took extreme precaution with the injury.

Reich maintained that the injury was minor but in order for Luck to be 100% ready for training camp at the end of July, the Colts wanted to make sure it gets the proper treatment and healing time.

The Colts begin mandatory veteran minicamp Tuesday, which runs through Thursday. It is the final time the Colts will be together as a team before breaking for summer.
