Colts have prime opportunity to add a WR on Day 2

As the first round of the 2020 NFL draft came and went, the Indianapolis Colts stayed put holding the No. 34 overall pick. After everything that unfolded, they have a prime opportunity to add a strong wide receiver on Day 2.

Though the first round featured six wide receivers being drafted, this class is as deep as it can be. Sitting with the second pick to begin Day 2—and another pick 10 spots later—the Colts have a prime opportunity to add a starting-caliber wide receiver to the room on Friday.

Whether they stay put at No. 34 or move back at some point, the Colts have a chance to add any of the following prospects, and it would be met with praise:

  • Denzel Mims, Baylor
  • Laviska Shenault Jr., Colorado
  • Michael Pittman Jr., USC
  • Tee Higgins, Clemson

That isn’t the entire list but all of those players have extremely high upside to be an immediate contributor in the Colts offense. If they are truly looking for an X-receiver to fill the void in the offense—something they haven’t had in a while—they have the pick of their choosing.

There are several prospects the Colts could consider at other positions as well. There are some top safety prospects available as well as some strong cornerbacks to choose from. The Colts could even add an edge piece or an offensive tackle.

What should be expected is the Colts moving out of one of their second-round picks. Chris Ballard wants to move back and add more selections and with the value already presenting itself, the Colts should have no problem finding suitors while adding picks and still being able to draft quality prospects.

It should be a fun Friday for the Colts, and it could get started with a bang and a new running mate for T.Y. Hilton.
