Colts have interest in DT Gerald McCoy

The Indianapolis Colts have a level of interest in pursuing free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

McCoy was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday after nine seasons since being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Now available, McCoy is a target for the Colts, first reported by Mike Chappell of Fox59.

“A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the Colts have a level of interest in the 6′ 4″, 300-pound McCoy. They either have had or will have internal discussions regarding whether to actively pursue him.”

The Colts have made it clear they like their interior defensive line the way it stands now, but adding McCoy to the rotation would be a serious upgrade to both the three-technique and the one-technique positions.

A solid fit for the one-gap attacking front the Colts implement, McCoy has earned six Pro Bowl selections and one First-Team All-Pro selection. In 123 games (all starts), McCoy has recorded 54.5 sacks and 140 quarterback hits.

It remains to be seen if McCoy will be signed, but there is interest from the Colts.
