Colts GM Chris Ballard: Rhodes will play with a chip on his shoulder

Xavier Rhodes was an All-Pro cornerback for the Vikings, but that was in 2017.

In 2020, the team released Rhodes after several consecutive years where the cornerback declined.

Now, Rhodes is on the Colts, and Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard talked about what the corner can bring to the table.

“He is only 29 years old. He’s got some unique traits and we think we can get him back to playing at that level. I think he is pretty hungry,” Ballard said Friday on a conference call. “I think being released by Minnesota sparked a fire in him. It’s fun, it is going to be fun to watch him play with a chip on his shoulder. I think he can still be a high performer for us.”

Rhodes had one interception in 2018 and none in 2019. However, if he can return to his old self, the one that could frustrate even the best wide receivers with pressing and ball-hawking skills, then the Colts got a steal.
