The Indianapolis Colts spent their first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft to bolster the wide receiver room but it appears they are being lumped in with the group of teams predicted to sign embattled wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Now, let’s get this out of the way. This is not to say the Colts should sign Brown. If and when Brown becomes available (he retired for the third time in 18 months), the Colts likely won’t even show interest given the recent off-field issues the veteran wideout has dealt with.
That said, BetOnline listed the Colts having 10/1 odds as the team to sign Brown, tied for the sixth-highest on the list.
Even with rookie Michael Pittman Jr. expected to have a big role and Parris Campbell returning healthy from an injury-marred 2019 campaign, the Colts could technically be considered a team in the market for a wide receiver.
However, it is unlikely the Colts will be in the running for Brown. He faces an eight-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, which is effective Week 1 of the 2020 season. He’s been in the headlines for the last year and a half for all of the wrong reasons.
There is no denying his talent. On the field, Brown is a Hall of Fame wide receiver and even at the age of 32, his talent is still worthy of being a WR1 on the depth chart.
But most teams likely won’t want to deal with the off-field and locker room issues that could come with signing Brown. The Colts are likely one of those teams who would take a hard pass at bringing him in.
