Colts free agent S Malik Hooker to visit Dolphins

Indianapolis Colts free agent safety Malik Hooker is set to visit the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hooker, who was the Colts’ first-round pick in 2017, didn’t pan out the way they had hoped when Chris Ballard made his first-ever draft selection as general manager of Indy.

While Hooker’s skill set as a rangy safety with instincts is enticing, he never truly hit his ceiling and dealt with injuries in almost every season of his career. The Ohio State product tore his ACL seven games into a promising rookie season and was seemingly on the injury report several times throughout the next three campaigns.

There is still some upside with Hooker. He’s still young enough for a team to take a chance on and while he won’t make a major impact in the run game, he has shown the ability to make plays on the ball—though there were inconsistencies there as well.

Hooker also met with the Dallas Cowboys during free agency and is one of five former Colts from the 2020 season to still be available on the market.
