Colts encouraged with Jabaal Sheard’s progress

The Indianapolis Colts have been without one of their top defensive ends for roughly a month and a half as Jabaal Sheard has been recovering from a knee injury.

After missing all but one training camp practice, the entire preseason and the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, Sheard is making progress toward a return. It isn’t clear when that will be, but head coach Frank Reich told the media Wednesday he’s encouraged with Sheard’s progress.

In the final year of his contract with the Colts, Sheard has been a force ever since signing with the team in 2017. He hasn’t racked up a high sack total, but he’s been a consistent power rusher while setting the edge against the run.

As Sheard continues to progress, the young defensive ends in Al-Quadin Muhammad, Kemoko Turay and second-round pick Ben Banogu will fill the void. All three recorded sacks in Week 1.
