Colts dropped 31-24 by Raiders: Instant analysis

The Indianapolis Colts (2-2) were defeated, 31-24, by the Oakland Raiders (2-2) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The game was over when…

…the Raiders got a pick-six in the fourth quarter just over two minutes remaining to extend their lead to two touchdowns.

Game Balls

  • S Khari Willis: The rookie safety made his presence known on a few plays, included one where he snuffed out a screen and came downhill to end the play.
  • TE Jack Doyle: There wasn’t much to be excited about on the offensive side, but Doyle was a great blocker and caught a touchdown pass in the first half.

Key Stats

  • 5.9: The Raiders averaged 5.9 yards per carry on the ground.
  • 2: The Colts committed two costly turnovers: a Parris Campbell fumble and Brissett’s pick-six.

Quick Hits

  • The Colts sorely missed the presence of T.Y. Hilton, who sat out with a quadriceps injury, and the offense couldn’t get anything going downfield.
  • QB Jacoby Brissett has thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game this season.
  • The offense was plagued by drops, three of which belonged to TE Eric Ebron. Ebron salvaged his day with a 48-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
  • CBs Rock Ya-Sin and Quincy Wilson were responsible for Raiders touchdowns in the first half.
  • Run defense was another concern in this game as the Raiders averaged 5.9 yards per carry. RB Josh Jacobs took 17 carries for 79 yards.
  • The Colts defensive line didn’t record a sack for the second game in a row.
  • The Indianapolis defense struggled mightily again with missed tackles, which led to yards after contact for the Raiders.
  • WR Chester Rogers caught his first touchdown pass of the year in the fourth quarter to cut the lead.
  • LB Anthony Walker again led the defense in tackles. He also recorded the Colts’ only sack.

Injuries

  • WR T.Y. Hilton (quad), LB Darius Leonard (concussion), DT Tyquan Lewis (ankle), S Malik Hooker (knee) were all inactive due to injuries.
  • RB Marlon Mack (ankle) suffered an injury in the fourth quarter.

Up Next: The Colts take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
