The Indianapolis Colts spent a sixth-round pick on defensive end Gerri Green and after waiving him on Saturday, he will be joining the New England Patriots practice squad.
In a crowded defensive line room, Green had a long shot at making the 53-man roster. The Colts wanted him back, but Green ultimately signed with the Patriots practice squad, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star.
Green had a solid showing in the preseason but couldn’t make enough of an impact with his limited work to convince the Colts he was worthy of a roster spot.
A high-character and athletic defensive end who also worked at linebacker during his time with Mississippi State, Green recorded 8.5 sacks and 20.0 tackles for loss during his collegiate career.
