Colts don’t appear to be major players for DT Gerald McCoy

The Indianapolis Colts were one of the first teams to have reported interest in veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy since his release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, there hasn’t been any indication that the Colts are major players for the free agent. The 31-year-old seems to have made his rounds visiting three teams in the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers and reportedly will take the weekend to make his decision.

The Colts seemed to have some interest in McCoy, especially given the need on the interior defensive line. But there’s a chance his desired price was much higher than the value general manager Chris Ballard had for him.

A signing shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand, though. There was no news about the Justin Houston signing in March. There wasn’t even a reported visit, but the Colts wound up signing him to a two-year deal. This isn’t to say that’s what is happening, but it is always a possibility.

It remains to be seen which team McCoy will choose after taking time to think it over, but it appears the Colts aren’t too high on the list.
