There was a moment late in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft on Thursday night that looked as though there was a chance the Indianapolis Colts might try to trade up from their No. 34 pick.
However even though the opportunity presented itself, general manager Chris Ballard didn’t even make an attempt to trade up into the back-end of the first round, per Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star.
This goes to show, to a degree, that the Colts feel comfortable where they are and that they didn’t feel any of those prospects were worth trading up for—even Utah State’s Jordan Love, who went to the Packers at No. 26.
Ballard has made it clear that the Colts will actively be looking to move back, but there was a chance they moved up to take a player they really liked. That didn’t come to fruition, though, and now they are ready for a busy Friday.
The Colts still have seven selections left and three on Friday. They are likely to move back with one of their picks while still adding some prospects with strong value on Day 2.
What exactly will happen remains to be seen but the fact that the Colts decided against even trying to trade up shows that the board is falling just how they want it to.
