Colts’ Deon Cain says he’s running routes

The Indianapolis Colts are excited to see how some of the new faces acclimate into the depth chart and in some ways, that includes wide receiver Deon Cain.

Because he suffered a torn ACL in the preseason opener before the start of his rookie season, the Colts didn’t get to see what type of impact Cain can make on the offensive side of the ball.

As the Clemson product progresses through his rehab, Cain told reporters Wednesday following practice that he’s been running and running routes.

The Colts are expected to have heavy competition in the wide receiver room for the roles behind T.Y. Hilton. Where Cain will fit into that remains to be seen, but he’s expected to at least be in the thick of the competition when training camp arrives at the end of July.

Cain has been making steady progress since undergoing ACL surgery and is expected to be full-go for training camp.

The Colts won’t get to see Cain running around this spring during OTAs and veteran minicamp, but the second-year wideout is making encouraging progress in order to be ready for training camp.
