Colts’ DeForest Buckner lands at No. 56 on NFL top 100 players list

NFL Network is revealing their “Top 100 players of 2020” list this week and have already revealed half of the selections. Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner came in at No. 56 overall.

The Colts gave up a first-round pick (No. 13 overall) to land the talented interior pass rusher this offseason, hoping he can be the type of impact player they’ve needed all along at a vital position.

Here’s what NFL.com said about Buckner’s ranking at No. 56:

The 49ers’ best defensive player over the past two seasons landed a new home and new contract this offseason, with the Colts willingly giving up a first-rounder for the former top-10 pick. His effectiveness as a pass rusher and versus the run netted him a second-team All-Pro nod in 2019.

It’s no surprise that Buckner made the list. He’s been an incredible impact player at the three-technique since entering the league in 2016 as the No. 6 overall pick in the draft.

His presence should be felt directly and indirectly through the Colts defense whether he’s applying pressure himself or commanding so much attention that the one-on-one matchups have an easier time collapsing the pocket.

Regardless, the Colts couldn’t be happier to bring Buckner into the fold as they try to take advantage of this window to win-now.
