Colts’ DeForest Buckner (foot) trending in right direction

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is currently dealing with a foot injury but seems to be making progress toward a return to training camp.

Buckner suffered a foot injury during Saturday’s practice, and the Colts held him out of team drills that day. They also kept him off the field for Sunday’s practice knowing they have an off day Monday.

Head coach Frank Reich told the media Sunday that Buckner is making progress toward a return.

“He came out good. We feel good. He made progress. With the day off tomorrow, it was just like, ‘Let’s just be certain and be smart, and just make sure he kind of doesn’t have a setback.’ We will still take it day-by-day, but things are trending in the right direction,” Reich said.

Making sure Buckner is back fully healthy without any chance of future implications should be the priority for the Colts even if that means he misses some time during training camp.

With quarterback Carson Wentz and left guard Quenton Nelson out for at least the next few weeks, the team can’t afford to lose its best defensive player in Buckner for an extended amount of time.

The Colts are back at practice on Tuesday at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield so it will be interesting to see if Buckner makes his return.
