Colts DE Justin Houston: Texans offensive line is on the same page

After allowing 18 sacks in four games, the Houston Texans offensive line hasn’t allowed one in the past two. Their competition is taking notice.

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Justin Houston — who will face the Texans on Sunday — views the Texans offensive line as a unit that has shown cohesiveness as of late.

“I think they’re just on the same page,” said Houston during Indianapolis’ Thursday media availability. “They had a bunch of new pieces up front, so it just took time for them to get to know each other.”

The Texans brought in three new starters over the offseason. They drafted right tackle Tytus Howard (currently injured) in the first round and left guard Max Scharping in the second. Then, they made a splash a week before the season-opener by acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Miami Dolphins.

Inserting a new starter on the line a week before the season-opener always meant the Texans would go through growing pains. Now, however, they are reaping the benefits.

“You brought in a (new) left tackle the first week of the season, so they didn’t have a chance to work together at all,” Houston continued. “I think it’s just getting comfortable with one another and knowing each other. So I think they’re starting to gel.”

After six weeks, the Texans offensive line is clicking. Though Roderick Johnson is now the starting right tackle, Houston and Co. have their work cut out for themselves for Sunday.
