Colts’ Darius Leonard making history on impact plays

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard has been making impact plays ever since he was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and he continues to make history in the NFL.

With two interceptions in Sunday’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Leonard became the first player to record 10 sacks and five interceptions through his first 25 career games since 1982—when the sack became an official stat.

Leonard earned All-Pro honors during his rookie season when he led the NFL in tackles, which also set a franchise record for the Colts. The Maniac has been the engine of the defense since stepping on the field for his first game.

He got off to a slow start in 2019, but the second half of the season has been extremely kind to him. In his last eight games, he has 4.0 sacks, four interceptions five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

The Colts defense has been a strong unit for the majority of the season, and Leonard’s historic pace has been the engine behind the group’s success.
