Colts’ Darius Leonard (ankle) spotted without walking boot

Indianapolis Colts linebacker and reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year winner Darius Leonard won’t be participating in the spring workouts after undergoing offseason ankle surgery, but it appears he’s making some progress.

Leonard, who is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, was seen Wednesday at the Colts’ fourth OTA practice without wearing a protective walking boot on his left ankle, per Mike Chappell of Fox59.

Leonard enjoyed an incredible and historic rookie season in 2018, but it becomes even more remarkable when considering he endured much of the campaign working through an ankle injury.

NFL players play through pain all the time, but it was significant enough to have an offseason procedure done.

Leonard is still expected to be out for the remainder of OTAs and veteran minicamp, but this seems like a step in the right direction as the league’s tackle king prepares to return for training camp.
