After opting against making a selection in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts are set to have a busy schedule on Friday with four picks on the day.
Though it would be considered uncharacteristic of general manager Chris Ballard to address the position so early, there is some immense value the Colts face at the wide receiver position.
With only two wide receiver prospects being selected in the first round, there is some extremely intriguing value to be had at the position. Even though Ballard doesn’t typically address the position in Round 2, there are some options to consider.
Just to name a few, here are some of the top wide receivers left for the Colts on Day 2:
- D.K. Metcalf
- A.J. Brown
- Deebo Samuel
- Parris Campbell
- Kelvin Harmon
- Hakeem Butler
- Terry McLaurin
- Emanuel Hall
Some fit what the Colts like to do with their wide receivers while others, like Harmon, simply possess the size and skill set that is currently lacking in the room.
Outside of T.Y. Hilton, the Colts wide receiver room faces several question marks. Sure, the upside of Devin Funchess and Deon Cain gives fans hope for a strong unit. However, the question marks could be enough to lead the Colts to making a selection earlier than expected.
The Colts will enter Friday’s rounds with three picks in the second and one pick in the third. They are liable to change, but one of those selections could be a wide receiver.
Several of the wide receivers listed above have the skill set and/or potential to compete for a heavy role in the offense.
How Day 2 will unfold remains to be seen, but the Colts should be able to find strong value at the wide receiver position if they feel it is time to invest relatively heavy to fill the need.
