Colts claim S Derrick Kindred off waivers from Browns

The Indianapolis Colts claimed safety Derrick Kindred off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Tuesday.

Kindred was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Browns out of TCU. In three seasons, Kindred has played 42 games (17 starts) while recording 144 tackles (105 solo), 12 passes defended and two interceptions.

Kindred played 16 games (two starts) for the Brows in 2018. He recorded 45 tackles (33 solo) and one interception.

He’s likely a depth piece for the Colts battling it out with fellow safety George Odum. It will be interesting to see what will happen if the Colts invest early in a safety during the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Colts are currently thin at the safety position entering the draft, but it seems they are hoping Kindred can provide some backend depth in the secondary.
