Colts’ Chris Ballard: ‘We’ll find ways to win games’

The Indianapolis Colts will be dealing with the fallout of Andrew Luck’s shocking retirement for years and while it is saddening to see him hang up the spikes so soon, there is a job to be done by general manager Chris Ballard and the front office.

The season hasn’t even begun yet for the Colts and while most are writing them off in the AFC South, Ballard has a job to do. He knows the only way to truly get through this massive change is to trust the process that has led the building since he took over in 2017.

“It’s our job to find answers. We have a lot of confidence, as an organization, as a group, that we’ll find ways to win games,” Ballard told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “And that’s what we have to do. That’s our job.”

Replacing Luck’s talent and production on the field is near impossible. He was a generational talent at the quarterback position. But the Colts have a lot of confidence in what Jacoby Brissett can bring to the team both on the field and in the locker room.

Ballard said during the press conference Saturday night that the team won’t be asking Brissett to be the next Andrew Luck. They believe in the skill set he has, and they are excited to see what can be made of his future with the team.

“We’re not gonna ask Jacoby Brissett to be Andrew Luck,” Ballard said Saturday night. “Andrew Luck was a unique, unique player, but Jacoby Brissett is a winning football player in this league. Jacoby Brissett is a rare, rare leader. He is. He’s a rare human being, man. That locker room loves Jacoby Brissett. They love him.”

Though they aren’t going to be viewed as the favorites in the AFC South, the Colts are still confident they can be a competitive team without Luck leading the charge.

It won’t be an easy road for the Colts in 2019, but a new era is being ushered in by Ballard, and it will be done without having the benefit of a generational talent at quarterback.
