Colts’ Chris Ballard non-committal on Andrew Luck playing Week 1

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard called a press conference with the local media to address the issue surrounding quarterback Andrew Luck and the calf injury that has kept him off the field for the majority of the last three months.

Ballard have an update saying that Luck’s calf injury has now turned to an ankle issue. They will continue to rehab and surgery is not being considered.

However, a concerning part of the press conference was that Ballard was non-committal about Luck’s chances to play Week 1. He wasn’t ready to say it was in jeopardy, but they are in wait-and-see mode.

Now, there is a chance Luck suits up on Sept. 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he will need a certain amount of practice before that happens.

Luck was held out of the spring practices due to a calf strain. They thought he would be ready by the time training camp arrived, but the pain remained and it was revealed to be more of an ankle issue.

Luck’s injury watch has become more prominent than it already was and while it hasn’t been ruled out yet, the Colts are waiting to commit for the 29-year-old to be ready for Week 1.
