Colts’ Carson Wentz to undergo surgery on foot

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz will undergo surgery to correct the foot injury he suffered during the first week of training camp, head coach Frank Reich told reporters Monday.

The surgery is expected to have a recovery timeline of 5-12 weeks from the date of the procedure, which is expected to be Monday.

Reich told the media that the decision was very close between getting the surgery and simply resting and rehab. However, they didn’t want to re-aggravate the injury midseason and have him knocked out for the rest of the campaign.

Reich said the foot injury stems from a previous ailment Wentz suffered a long time ago. The doctors believe the pain stems from a broken foot that Wentz suffered potentially even back in high school when a bone fragment came loose during the first week of training camp.

It isn’t clear if the Colts will make any moves to bring in a safer option at quarterback but if they don’t, it will be second-year passer Jacob Eason getting the call under center until Wentz returns.
