Colts can bring back QB Chad Kelly off suspended list

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Chad Kelly has served his two-game suspension and is eligible to be brought back as soon as Monday.

With Kelly’s suspension officially over, the Colts will have a decision to make with the former seventh-round pick. It isn’t likely they carry three quarterbacks on the active roster with Jacoby Brissett fully entrenched as the starter and veteran Brian Hoyer employed as the backup.

Should the Colts want to bring Kelly back—all indications point that they do—the most logical place for the 25-year-old is on the practice squad. The Colts don’t currently have a quarterback on the 10-man practice squad, so the spot is open for Kelly.

They would, of course, have to make a corresponding move to make room for Kelly on the practice squad. It isn’t clear if the Colts would have to subject Kelly to waivers before bringing him to the practice squad should that be the avenue they go.

Kelly had a strong showing in the preseason. It was certainly enough to warrant a return to the practice squad.

What the Colts will do remains to be seen, but they can officially bring him back as of Monday.
