Colts’ Anthony Castonzo will return for 2020

The Indianapolis Colts got some good news this week as left tackle Anthony Castonzo informed the team he will be returning in 2020, general manager Chris Ballard announced Tuesday at the NFL scouting combine.

Castonzo was using his time off since the 2019 season ended to contemplate his next move as his current contract officially expires in March. Ballard said Castonzo will be returning and that a deal is in the works for the 30-year-old left tackle.

Castonzo enjoyed what was arguably his best season since entering the league in 2011 as a first-round pick. His leadership and success both in pass protection and run blocking are major reasons why the Colts had such a strong offensive line.

It wasn’t clear which way Castonzo was truly leaning, but this is a huge sigh of relief for the Colts. Had Castonzo actually retired, they would have added a major need at the left tackle position.

Even with his return expected, the Colts are likely going to have to start looking for his successor this offseason. Whether they find it now or next offseason remains to be seen, but the search has to begin.

Regardless, the Colts now find themselves in a better situation knowing their stud left tackle will be returning.
