Just a day before the legal tampering period opens for the league, the Indianapolis Colts signed veteran left tackle Anthony Castonzo to a two-year contract extension.
The deal is worth $33 million with an average annual value (AAV) of $16.5 million. That figure makes Castonzo the league’s highest-paid left tackle in terms of AAV, surpassing Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan. The deal also makes Castonzo the second highest-paid offensive tackle in the league, behind only Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson ($18 million).

Getting this deal done was a massive need for the Colts. Now, their entire starting offensive line is intact from the 2019 season, and they can begin looking at other positions as the new league year approaches.
Even with Castonzo’s new deal running through the 2021 season, the Colts would be wise to add a young tackle in the draft. This year’s crop is thought to be deep and even if they have to take a high-upside prospect, they now have the time to develop one with Castonzo under contract.
