Colts’ Andrew Luck won’t practice leading up to preseason opener

Because of a lingering calf injury, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will continue to remain out of practice leading up to the team’s first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

Speaking with reporters following Saturday’s training camp practice, coach Frank Reich said Luck won’t practice during the coming week.

He did mention that Luck is making progress and that the group is happy with where the 29-year-old is at in terms of working his way back onto the field.

The Colts are making sure to wait until Luck is 100% ready to return from the calf injury, which he suffered during the spring workouts in May.

The plan all along was to keep Luck out of the preseason opener against the Bills on Aug. 8, and it remains to be seen whether he will play in any one of the four preseason games.

In his place, backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will continue to take the first-team snaps at practice, followed by Phillip Walker and Chad Kelly.
