There was plenty of news regarding Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and the calf injury that has shut him down for the time being, but that didn’t keep him from being ranked as one of the top players in the NFL.
Luck, who is the reigning Comeback Player of the Year after a spectacular 2018 season, was ranked 20th in NFL Network’s Top 100 players of 2019 list.
Luck back in the top-20 for the second time in his career, and the first since 2015. Injuries pushed Luck entirely off the Top 100 last season, but there’s no doubt he will remain as long as he’s healthy. With a new coach (Frank Reich) and a talented group of rookies ( Quenton Nelson, Darius Leonard) in 2018, Luck brought the Colts back to the postseason after a four-year hiatus. The 2018 Comeback Player of the Year was a viable MVP candidate had it not been for Patrick Mahomes and Drew Brees. With another healthy year away from the shoulder injury and another year in Reich’s offense, Luck should only be better in 2019.
Turning 30 years old in September, Luck finished the 2018 season completing 67.3% of his passes for 4,593 yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while posting a 98.7 passer rating.
Luck’s outlook for the 2019 season is still rock solid even if he is dealing with a calf issue that is going to keep him out of the preseason opener at the least. The Colts don’t feel there is any long-term issue about the calf, but it has put somewhat of a damper on training camp.
The reigning Comeback Player of the Year is still in his prime and should be ready to enjoy another fine season as long as he stays healthy.
