Colts’ Andrew Luck (calf) to be re-evaluated next week

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck won’t be participating in the first week of organized team activities, but the team will re-evaluate the injury next week.

The Colts are holding Luck, who is dealing with a calf strain, off the field for the first week of OTAs simply to be cautious. They want to avoid any issues down the line, especially when the team prepares for training camp.

“Yeah, just during the training section here – just a little tweak, a little strain,” head coach Frank Reich told Indy media members Tuesday. “Yeah, I would anticipate – where we are at right now we will just say, ‘Hey play conservative this week. Let’s just (do) nothing this week and then we will reevaluate after this week and see where he is.’ I don’t anticipate him being out the whole camp, no.”

Not just with Luck, the Colts are going to be overcautious with any player dealing with an ailment, regardless of how severe it might be.

The 29-year-old is coming off of the most efficient season of his career, which included a 67.3% completion percentage and a 98.7 passer rating. He also threw 39 touchdown passes, good for second-most in the NFL.

The Colts will wrap up their first week of OTAs on Thursday and will look to get the face of the franchise back on the field for Week 2.
