Colts’ Andrew Luck ‘absolutely’ believes he’ll be ready Week 1

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been dealing with a calf strain since the start of the spring workouts but has encountered some slow progress, which has forced the team to shut him down for the time being.

Though there is some concern about the longevity of the process in Luck returning, the Colts are adamant that the long-term isn’t an issue. Luck himself told reporters following Tuesday’s training camp practice that he “absolutely” believes he will be ready for the start of the regular season.

While going through his shoulder rehab over the past two seasons, Luck has learned not to push the process faster than it needs to be. He did that with the shoulder injury and it wound up costing him the entire 2017 season.

There is some good news revolving Luck’s calf. Although he was feeling some pain in his calf and ankle, the team ran tests and determined that the Achilles is not in question. Seeing what happened to Kevin Durant, that was the big issue to avoid.

Luck also told reporters that surgery on the calf was ruled out very early in the process.

The Colts will keep Luck out of practice the next two days, and it has already been decided he won’t suit up for the preseason opener on Aug. 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

This is certainly a storyline to keep an eye on, but there is at least some encouragement that Luck firmly believes he will be ready for the regular season.
