Colts among teams with most rookie snaps played in 2019

Though it is no surprise, the Indianapolis Colts are roughly halfway through their season, and the 2019 rookie class has gotten plenty of playing time and experience.

Through seven games entering Week 9, the Colts’ rookie class has played the eighth-most snaps in the NFL, per Field Yates of ESPN.

The two rookies getting the most playing time are safety Khari Willis and cornerback Rock Ya-Sin. Both have emerged as starters in the secondary due to their emerging talent in addition to some injuries at their respective positions.

Ya-Sin, a second-round pick, has shown promise. He’s also dealt with some growing pains with the latest edition coming against the Denver Broncos when he committed five penalties.

Willis has quickly emerged as the running mate of Malik Hooker in the defensive backfield. He’s been strong against the run while proving to be the best coverage safety not named Hooker. He’s already taken the starting role from Clayton Geathers and has shown to have a bright future.

There have been some disappointments with the class, though. Wide receiver Parris Campbell has dealt with some injuries and even when he’s on the field, he’s not making nearly the impact expected of him. There is still plenty of time, but the Colts need him to be a factor in the second half.

Given the construction of the roster, the Colts will be relying heavily on the rookie class during the second half of the season as they make their run for a playoff spot.
